He attributed the smooth execution of the shadow election to the enabling environment provided by the leadership in the state, specifically praising Governor Peter Mbah.

The committee chairman also lauded the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye, for his strategic contributions and dedication toward the success of the primary elections.
“I commend the governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, for providing the enabling ground for this peaceful election. I also commend the APC Deputy National Chairman (South), Dr. Ben Nwoye, for his efforts, as well as members of the party in the state for conducting themselves in an orderly and peaceful manner,” Funkekeme added.
While rolling out the official figures, Funkekeme declared Senator Osita Ngwu the winner of the Enugu West Senatorial District primary after he polled 70,015 votes to secure the ticket.
In the Enugu East Senatorial District, Senator Kelvin Chukwu secured a landslide victory, defeating his sole opponent, Nnaji Shalom Nwakaego, in a heavily one-sided contest.
Senator Chukwu polled a total of 111,743 votes, while Nwakaego managed to secure only 482 votes from the participating party members.
The keenly watched race in Enugu North Senatorial District, which featured four contestants, saw Chief Ikeje Asogwa emerge victorious with an overwhelming majority.
