APC Primary: Mutfwang Clinches Plateau Governorship Ticket

The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has secured the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after recording a sweeping victory in the party’s primary election ahead of the next general polls.

Mutfwang defeated his only challenger, retired Navy Commodore Yilchini Jan Bida, by polling 233,335 votes, while Bida garnered 3,070 votes.

Declaring the outcome of the exercise, Chairman of the APC Governorship and House of Assembly Primary Election Committee in Plateau State, Fedelis Mnyim, disclosed that a total of 236,405 votes were cast across the state’s local government areas.

Mnyim praised party members for conducting themselves peacefully during the exercise, noting that the primary complied with the party’s laid-down rules and procedures.

According to him, the governorship primary election held on May 21, 2026, was successfully conducted under the supervision of the committee and party officials.

He stated that after collating the results, Mutfwang emerged with the highest number of valid votes and was therefore returned as the APC governorship candidate for Plateau State in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.

The primary election, which took place across the state, was monitored by party officials and security personnel, with reports indicating that the process was generally peaceful and orderly.
