Kwara Assembly Speaker Wins APC Governorship Primary

The Chairman of the Kwara State APC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Musiliu Obanikoro has declared the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Salihu Yakubu Danladi, winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in the state.

Obanikoro announced the results on Friday evening.

Danladi secured massive support across the state during the keenly contested exercise on Saturday.

The Speaker dominated voting in Ilorin, Offa, Ifelodun, Oyun, Baruten, Kaiama, Edu and Patigi Local Government Areas, among others, in the high-stakes poll.

Voice of Nigeria reports that party leaders, stakeholders and members across Kwara Central, North and South turned out massively to affirm Danladi’s candidacy, as he polled more than 65 per cent of the total votes cast.

Senator Obanikoro said; “Danladi secured 94,990 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki, who polled 41,700 votes, while Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa scored 22,118 votes.’

Other aspirants in the race included Dele Belgore, Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, Femi Sani, Professor Wale Suleiman, Professor Abubakar Suleiman, Mohamed Bio and Dr. Alabi Oluwatoyin.

Field reports showed that from Alanamu to Ajikobi, Ojuekun and Adewole in Ilorin West, as well as Ibagun and Gambari in Ilorin East, party members voted massively for Danladi, popularly known as SYD.

The five local government areas in Kwara North reportedly delivered over 90 per cent of their votes in favour of the Speaker, while he also recorded strong performances across the remaining senatorial districts.

In Kwara South, Offa, Oyun, Irepodun, Ekiti, Isin, Oke Ero and Ifelodun Local Government Areas were also said to have overwhelmingly supported Danladi’s emergence as the APC governorship candidate.

Other results announced showed that Femi Sani polled 5,519 votes; Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, 3,920 votes; Dele Belgore, 3,411 votes; Mohamed Bio, 1,122 votes; Dr. Alabi Oluwatoyin, 1,099 votes; Professor Wale Suleiman, 2,434 votes; and Professor Abubakar Suleiman, 1,722 votes.
