Nigeria has joined other member states of the Developing Eight (D-8) Organisation for Economic Cooperation at the 51st Session of the D-8 Commission Meeting held in Ankara, Turkey.
The high-level gathering also coincided with the 29th anniversary of the D-8 Organisation, bringing together diplomats and senior officials from member countries including Turkey, Egypt, Pakistan, Iran, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and Nigeria.
Speaking at the event, D-8 Secretary-General, Suhail Mahmood, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation among developing nations.
He noted that “the D-8 continues to serve as a platform for enhancing trade, investment, industrial collaboration, and sustainable development among its members.”
Nigeria, a founding member of the organisation, was represented at the meeting by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dunoma Umar Ahmed.
The D-8 Organisation for Economic Cooperation was established to promote economic collaboration and development among its member states, which collectively represent a significant share of the developing world’s population and economic potential.
The Ankara meeting provides an opportunity for member states to review ongoing programmes, assess progress on key initiatives, and explore new areas of cooperation aimed at boosting economic growth and prosperity across the D-8 region.
