The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a revenue target of N11.074 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, almost double the N6.584 trillion target for 2025, which it exceeded by generating N7.277 trillion.
The Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Customs also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for extending the tenure of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, by six months.
The Comptroller-General disclosed the ambitious 2026 revenue target during separate budget defence sessions before the Senate and House Committees on Customs.

Speaking before the Senate Committee, Adeniyi said the Service had already realised N4.43 trillion of the projected N11.074 trillion revenue as of 31 May 2026.
He said the service proposed an expenditure of N1.235 trillion for the 2026 fiscal year, comprising N421 billion for personnel costs, N307 billion for overheads and N565 billion for capital expenditure.
Reviewing the Service’s 2025 budget performance, the Comptroller-General said the NCS generated N7.277 trillion against the revenue target of N6.584 trillion, representing an excess of about N693 billion and a positive variance of approximately 10.5 per cent.
He, however, noted that the Service could have generated more revenue in 2025 but for some government policies, including the implementation of tariff waivers for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, as well as the delayed implementation of the Green Tax, which affected its operations.
“Despite the major elephant in the room, which is the crisis in the Middle East, the Nigeria Customs Service is determined to achieve its 2026 revenue target of N11.074 trillion and even surpass it,” he said.
Reacting to the revenue performance and projections, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Jibrin Isah (Kogi East), congratulated the Comptroller-General on the six-month tenure extension approved by President Tinubu last month.
He commended the Customs Service under Adeniyi’s leadership for implementing reforms that have enhanced revenue generation, strengthened anti-smuggling operations, improved trade facilitation and provided infrastructure to support ease of doing business.
“The Nigeria Customs Service under your leadership has witnessed remarkable transformation through a series of revenue-generating reforms, improved anti-smuggling measures, enhanced trade facilitation and the provision of infrastructure to promote ease of doing business.
“Please work harder in 2026 to realise your budget projections and sustain the Service’s impressive performance,” he said.
The committee subsequently adopted the 2026 budget proposal of the Nigeria Customs Service through a voice vote, with all members present approving the estimates.
