SDP Hails Court Verdict on Osun Governorship Primary

By Mercy Gana and Bitrus Kozah, Abuja

The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe, has welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court, describing it as a reaffirmation of the legitimacy of the party’s governorship candidate and a resolution of attempts to challenge its internal processes.

Speaking in Abuja, Professor Gombe said the court affirmed that the SDP’s governorship candidate in Osun State emerged through a valid primary election conducted by the party and duly monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said; “The Federal High Court judgment delivered today has settled the matter. Our governorship candidate remains the duly elected candidate of the Social Democratic Party, having emerged from a primary election properly conducted by the party and monitored by INEC.”

Gombe said that “the SDP National Chairman accused some individuals of attempting to mislead the judiciary and create confusion within the party through protests and social media campaigns.”

He further alleged that certain persons had engaged in the unauthorised sale of nomination forms and collection of funds outside official party channels.

“I want to call on members of the press, INEC and the judiciary to remain vigilant against these elements whose actions are capable of undermining the country’s electoral process,” he said.

Prof. Gombe warned Nigerians and political aspirants against conducting business with individuals not recognised by the party, insisting that all enquiries and transactions relating to the SDP should be channelled through the party’s national secretariat and authorised officials.

“The Social Democratic Party will not be held responsible for any dealings carried out outside its recognised structures. Nigerians are free to approach the National Secretariat or any member of the National Working Committee for clarification on party matters,” he added.

The SDP chairman also commended members of the party’s National Working Committee for remaining united despite recent challenges, saying the party remains committed to providing Nigerians with a credible political alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“We are united as one family and determined to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative and rescue mission for our dear country in 2027. We appreciate the support and confidence reposed in the party by Nigerians,” Gombe stated.
