Kano State Governor, Northwest Nigeria, Abba Yusuf has announced plans to establish a state owned commercial airline as part of efforts to create employment opportunities.
He said the proposed airline, which will be known as Kano Airline, is expected to commence operations within the next year, providing a platform for trained pilots to begin their professional careers while strengthening the state’s aviation sector.
The announcement was made during the 40th executive council meeting at the Government House, Kano, where the Governor received several awards, including recognition from the Kano State Pilot Association for his administration’s commitment to supporting pilots in completing their aviation training.
Yusuf assured members of the association of his administration’s readiness to provide the necessary support to ensure the successful establishment and operation of the airline.
“By the grace of God, Kano Airline will begin operations within the next one year. We are committed to providing all the support required to make this vision a reality and create employment opportunities for our trained pilots.”

The Governor also expressed satisfaction with the performance of Kano sponsored pilots who underwent aviation training in Jordan under a programme initiated by the previous administration, describing their achievements as a testament to the state’s investment in human capital development.
Earlier, Chairman of the Kano State Pilot Association, Naziru Ibrahim, commended him for supporting members of the association, particularly through the revalidation of their flying licences.
“The support of the state government has been instrumental in helping many of our members renew their licences. We also seek your intervention in securing our final certifications so that we can begin commercial flight operations both locally and internationally,” Ibrahim pleaded.
The proposed state-owned airline is expected to boost Kano’s aviation industry, create skilled jobs, and enhance air connectivity while providing a career pathway for pilots trained under the state’s sponsorship programme.
