An intelligence-led follow-up operation by troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE in Plateau State has exposed and disrupted an armed bandit network in Langtang North.
During the operation, troops recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition after defeating an ambush at a suspected weapons hideout.
The operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected bandit, whose information led troops towards Nwur Village to recover a weapon reportedly concealed by the criminal network. What began as a recovery mission, however, developed into a confrontation when armed members of the syndicate attacked the advancing troops near the suspected hideout.
The engagement was contained by the troops, who responded with superior firepower and neutralised one of the attackers. The arrested suspect was also killed during the ensuing exchange of fire.

Following the encounter, troops exploited the area and recovered an AK-47 rifle, an AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition abandoned by the fleeing criminals. The recovery provides an immediate indication that the intelligence obtained from the arrested suspect had led security forces to an active weapons cache associated with the bandit network.
The incident also underscores the operational value and risks involved in intelligence exploitation. Information obtained from suspects can provide access to hidden weapons and criminal networks, but can equally expose troops to armed resistance when such networks detect an impending security operation.
Troops have therefore continued exploitation of the surrounding area in an effort to locate other members of the syndicate and prevent them from regrouping. The operation remains focused on denying the criminal network the freedom to operate around communities in the area.
Operation ENDURING PEACE has reaffirmed its commitment to sustained operations against criminal elements and to protecting law-abiding residents across Plateau State.
