President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged newly commissioned military officers to uphold the Constitution, protect Nigerians and safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.
President Tinubu gave the advice at the combined Passing-Out Parade of cadets of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna on Saturday.
The President, who was represented by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abbas, urged the officers to uphold discipline, honour, professionalism and selfless service.
He said; “Nigeria’s security challenges required a combination of military operations and efforts to address poverty, unemployment, poor education and other drivers of conflict.”
President Tinubu, however, commended the NDA for updating its curriculum to meet contemporary security challenges, including counter-terrorism, counter-insurgency and technology-driven military training.
He also praised the Academy for strengthening international partnerships and training cadets from several African countries.
The President urged the NDA to sustain its innovations and collaboration with defence and academic institutions to prepare officers for modern warfare.
He congratulated the graduating cadets and thanked their families for supporting them throughout their training.
The Passing-Out Parade featured cadets of the 73 Regular Course, Short Service Course 49, Direct Short Service Course 34 and Branch Commission Course 3 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
