The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) are exploring collaboration in meteorological training, research and capacity development to strengthen the use of weather and climate information in military operations.

This was disclosed when NiMet Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Charles Anosike, received the Academy Provost of the NDA, Professor B.J. Ajibuah, during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The visit provided an opportunity for both institutions to strengthen ties and identify areas of mutual interest, particularly in integrating meteorological knowledge and climate services into military training and operational planning.

Discussions focused on specialised training, professional development, joint research and knowledge exchange to improve the technical capacity of personnel from both institutions.

The two organisations also explored the possibility of establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their cooperation, define priority areas and facilitate joint initiatives.

The proposed partnership is expected to promote the use of meteorological expertise in national security and military decision-making while strengthening professional capacity through research, training and institutional collaboration.

The engagement highlights the importance of cooperation among government institutions in leveraging specialised knowledge and technical expertise to address national priorities and support Nigeria’s development objectives.
