Federal Government has commiserated with Sokoto State Government and traders with Sokoto State Government and the victims of fire incident at the State Central Market
The delegation led by the Chief of Staff to President Muhammad Buhari, Professor Ibrahim Gambari includes Ministers of Communication and Digital Economy, Sheikh Ali Pantami, Police Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi, Humanitarian Affairs Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Faruq and Senator Aliyu Wamakko.
Extending President Muhammad Buhari sympathies the leader of the delegation and Chief of Staff to Mr President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, commiserated with Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Sokoto people especially the traders at the market who suffered the loss.
He pledges federal government support to victims and state government to reconstruct the Market back to normal Shape.
Professor Gambari said President Buhari expressed concerned over the unfortunate fire incident but urged the victims to take the action as the will of God.
“Mr President has sent us here in Sokoto to extend his solidarity to the State Government and to commiserate with the victims on the damages and destructions caused by the unfortunate fire which razed Sokoto Central market,” Professor Gambari said.
According to him, the people of Sokoto are enormous and hardworking, very industrial especially on their contributions to the socio-economic development of the North West region and Country.
“To emphasize on the importance President Buhari attached to Sokoto people contributions he directed us to extend his sympathies and assured his commitment to assist the State government to return the market back to normal activities,” he added.
Responding, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said state government was consoled and delightful to receive the high powered delegation from President Muhammad Buhari.
Governor Tambuwal commended President Buhari for his commiseration to the State and traders of the fire disaster through a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu last week and now send a delegation.
“We thank Mr President for his concern and show of love and support to people of Sokoto State and that’s what is expected from a leader like him,
“When misfortune happened such as this you show your concern and possibly support we are highly encouraged and not feel abandoned,” Governor Tambuwal said.
He assured the delegation that the State government is doing it’s best to reconstruct the Market and also support the traders.
Governor Tambuwal explained that the incident was caused by an interim report by an electrical fault from a transformer serving the central market.
He added that the unfortunate incident was not only for Sokoto State but for the country and the entire West African region.
“The market was about 14,000 constructed shops and when added to makeshift shops that were erected later we had about 16,000 shops and 60% of it was razed down by the fire incident,” Tambuwal added.
Governor Tambuwal appealed for more support from the federal government especially to the traders who suffered the monumental loss.
