Abdullahi Ibrahim Emerges New NUJ Chairman in Adamawa State

Abdullahi Ibrahim of the Adamawa Television Corporation (ATV) has been elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa State Council, following a keenly contested election held at the NUJ Headquarters in Yola.

Ibrahim clinched victory with a total of 123 votes, defeating his closest rival, Fidelis Jockthan of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (Fombina FM), who garnered 45 votes.

The election was conducted under the supervision of the Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Yunusa Abdullahi of the Ministry of Information Chapel, alongside other committee members.

Earlier one of the initial chairmanship contenders, Samuel Gangwaja of ATV Yola, withdrew from the race shortly before the commencement of the polls.

Several other executive positions were filled unopposed, with the following individuals emerging as part of the new council leadership:

Vice Chairman ,Nuwamayinah Iddah Secretary,  Kisinja Bukar, Assistant Secretary , Mary Adamu.

Others are Treasurer, Joy Leka Financial Secretary, Owolabi Adenus and Auditor General, Hadiza Mahmud

In his acceptance speech, Ibrahim expressed profound gratitude to members of the union for the trust bestowed upon him.

He described the victory as both surprising and attributing it to his record of integrity and commitment.

He pledged to serve with diligence and uphold the values of the union throughout his three-year tenure.

Observers and participants commended the peaceful and transparent nature of the electoral process, describing it as a milestone for democratic practices within the NUJ in Adamawa State.
