The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced two women arrested by the Department of State Services (DSS) for their involvement in terrorism to 40 years’ imprisonment.
The convicted women, Safiya Salihu and Halima Abdullahi, are the mother and sister, respectively, of terrorist kingpin Kachallah Ibrahim Battujo, who was killed by Nigerian security forces on June 10, 2026, after a failed attempt to abduct students writing the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in a forest near Iluke, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Justice Hauwa Joseph Yilwa handed down the sentences after both women pleaded guilty to Counts 2, 4 and 5 of the five-count terrorism-related charge brought against them by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Both women escaped conviction on Counts 1 and 3, which bordered on receiving N490,300 from Battujo while fully aware that it was proceeds of terrorism, as well as receiving sponsorship for a holy pilgrimage funded with proceeds of terrorism.

The court struck out Counts 1 and 3 following an application by the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Oyedepo Rotimi.
According to the charges, the convicts aided and abetted the activities of Battujo by passing information to him through telephone communications.
Safiya Salihu also pleaded guilty to concealing information about her son’s terrorism-related activities, while Halima Abdullahi admitted concealing information regarding firearms illegally acquired by her brother, which she saw during a visit to his forest camp.
Justice Yilwa sentenced the two women to 20 years imprisonment on each count. The court, however, ordered that the sentences run concurrently.
The judge further directed that the convicts undergo rehabilitation after serving their prison terms.
