The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and easing the financial burden on families with the approved payment of ₦1.968 billion in examination fees for basic and secondary school students.
The latest approval follows the administration’s earlier commitment of ₦1.3 billion for the 2025/2026 students’ bursary scheme, underscoring Governor Eno’s sustained investment in human capital development and education-driven social transformation.
It aligns with the Governor’s ARISE Agenda, which prioritises free and compulsory education, ensuring that no eligible student is denied the opportunity to complete basic and secondary education because of financial constraints.

Governor Eno has directed the Ministry of Education and relevant agencies to commence immediate implementation, including the prompt settlement of all examination-related fees.
A breakdown of the approval shows that ₦1.368 billion will fund the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and associated requirements such as National Identification Number (NIN) registration, biometric capture, science practicals, Continuous Assessment (CASS), monitoring and examination administration.
The government also approved ₦50 million for the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) examinations, while ₦550 million will finance key state examinations, including the Common Entrance and Placement Examination, Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), Senior Secondary II Promotion Examination, and entrance examinations into Senior Science Colleges and Government Model Girls’ Secondary School.
The intervention will benefit thousands of students across Akwa Ibom State and advance efforts to remove financial barriers, improve learning outcomes and promote equal educational opportunities.
The intervention also complements President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises human capital development through improved access to quality education and skills acquisition.
The Akwa Ibom State Government, by investing in the educational future of its children, is not only expanding opportunities for academic success but also supporting broader national efforts to nurture a skilled, productive and globally competitive workforce for sustainable development.
