The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo has announced that approval has been granted for the establishment of an Army brigade in the State, a move expected to significantly strengthen security operations.
The governor disclosed this during the third anniversary celebration of the Anambra State House of Assembly, held alongside the June 12 Democracy Day commemoration in Awka.
Soludo said the new military formation would be accompanied by the construction of barracks and the deployment of hundreds of soldiers to support ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain public safety.

“Yesterday, I received a delegation from the Army that is working to set up a brigade. That has been approved and will be established. They will be building their barracks here, and hundreds, if not up to a thousand, soldiers will be here very soon,” he said.

The governor noted that the establishment of the brigade forms part of broader measures by his administration to strengthen security across Anambra and sustain the gains recorded in the fight against criminality.
According to him, the state’s security architecture has been reinforced through strategic investments, enhanced intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, and the implementation of the Homeland Security Law.
Soludo said the measures have improved the capacity of security agencies to tackle kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, and other security threats, while boosting public confidence and encouraging investment in the state.

Speaking on Nigeria’s democratic journey, the governor acknowledged the progress made in the country’s electoral process over the past years of uninterrupted democratic rule.
He stressed that despite existing challenges, democracy remains the best system of government and called for continued efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and governance.
Soludo also commended the Anambra State House of Assembly for what he described as its outstanding legislative performance, noting that several landmark laws passed by the Assembly have contributed to governance reforms and development in the state.

Among the laws he highlighted were the Local Government Administration Law, which he said has enhanced grassroots governance, improved fiscal management, and facilitated the payment of gratuity arrears to retirees, and the Homeland Security Law, which has strengthened the state’s security framework.
