Anambra Seeks Partnership with Globacom on Digital Economy

The Anambra State Government has expressed readiness to partner with telecommunications firm Globacom Limited in efforts to position the state as a leading digital and innovation hub in southeastern Nigeria.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from Globacom at the Government House in Awka, the Secretary to the State Government, Chiamaka Nnake said the administration was pursuing an ambitious urban renewal and digital transformation agenda aimed at modernising critical sectors of the economy.

Nnake said; “the government is expanding and developing new urban centres around Awka and Onitsha,” describing collaboration with Private sector technology firms as essential to achieving the state’s development objectives.

She noted that the state had already established 22 smart schools and was rolling out telemedicine services across all local government areas to improve access to healthcare, alongside broader efforts to digitise public services”.

Leading the Globacom delegation, Adeniyi Odejoni praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for ongoing infrastructure development projects, particularly in road construction and security.

Odejoni said Globacom, one of Nigeria’s largest telecommunications providers, was repositioning itself as a digital solutions company to meet evolving technological demands.

He highlighted the company’s extensive infrastructure investments in Anambra and across Nigeria.

Infrastructure initiatives

According to him, “the proposed partnership would include the provision of high-speed dedicated internet services for government operations, schools and hospitals, among other digital infrastructure initiatives.”

Also present at the meeting was Chinwe Okoli, Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation and Chief Executive Officer of the Solution Innovation District (SID).

She reiterated the administration’s commitment to building an innovation-driven economy and equipping young people in the state with globally competitive digital skills.
