Anambra Wins Nine National Education Excellence Awards

Anambra State has won nine of the 18 national honours presented at the 2026 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards, emerging as one of the top-performing states in the education sector.

The awards were presented on Monday, October 5, at Eagle Square, Abuja, to recognise outstanding teachers, school administrators and schools across the country.

Anambra State emerged overall best in eight categories: Public Primary School Administrator, Public Junior Secondary School Administrator, Private Junior Secondary School Teacher, Public Primary School Teacher, Private Junior Secondary School, Private Senior Secondary School, Private Junior Secondary School Administrator and Private Primary School.

The state also emerged first runner-up in the Best Public Secondary School Teacher category, bringing its total number of awards to nine.

Mrs. Gloria Nkolika of Odionu Awada Primary School 4, Obosi, won the Overall Best Public Primary School Administrator award and received a Jetour vehicle as part of the prize.

Mrs. Agatha Chika Ofojindu of Urban Boys Secondary School, Onitsha, won the Best Public Junior Secondary School Administrator award and received a tricycle.

Other winners from the state received prizes including deep freezers and laptops.

The Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, described the performance as a reflection of the progress being recorded in the state’s education sector.

He congratulated Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, the teachers, administrators, pupils and the entire education community for the achievement.

“At the 2026 President’s Teachers and Schools Excellence Awards held on October 5, at Eagle Square, Abuja, Anambra State secured nine awards out of 18 categories contested nationally,” Ogugua said in a statement posted on his verified social media handle.

 

He described the achievement as “another testament to the progress being recorded in education across Anambra State,” adding that the state would continue working to raise education standards.

The awards provide national recognition for educators and schools whose performance contributes to improving teaching, school administration and learning outcomes, areas central to efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s education system.
