The Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria (CCRN), Abuja Archdiocese, has called for national renewal, peace and responsible use of digital platforms by youths amid growing socio-economic and security challenges in the country.
Speaking during the 2026 Pentecost Programme in Abuja, the Chaplain of CCRN, Abuja Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Sani, said Nigeria required moral and spiritual transformation to address insecurity, economic hardship and social unrest affecting citizens.
He noted that the annual Pentecost gathering was “not only for spiritual revival but also an opportunity for prayers and reflection on national issues, including peace, security and leadership.”
According to him, Nigerian youths face increasing pressure and exposure through social media and the internet, stressing “the need for proper guidance to help them make responsible decisions in the digital age.”
He warned that although digital platforms provide opportunities for learning and development, they also expose young people to harmful content and negative influences capable of affecting their future and society at large.
“We are praying for positive transformation in Nigeria and for young people to be properly guided so they can become responsible leaders of tomorrow,” he said.
The cleric also urged Nigerians to embrace values that promote unity, peace and national development as the country prepares for the 2027 General election.
Also speaking, the Head of Media, CCRN Abuja Archdiocese, Mr John-Bello Onimisi, said many Nigerians were facing economic hardship and uncertainty, leading to frustration among citizens.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to remain hopeful and make informed decisions capable of promoting justice, good governance and national progress.
According to him, “citizens, especially Christians, should seek wisdom and discernment in choosing leaders who would prioritise truth, accountability and the welfare of the people ahead of the 2027 elections.’
Pentecost is the Christian celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles after Easter and is often described as the birthday of the Church
The Pentecost Programme attracted members of the Catholic Charismatic community and other Christian faithful who gathered to pray for Nigeria and discuss issues affecting the nation and its future.
