President Tinubu Clinches Ogun Victory in APC Primaries

Sekinat Salam, Abeokuta

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its presidential primary elections across wards nationwide, with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerging victorious in Ogun State.

Party leaders described the outcome as a decisive show of support for President Tinubu’s second-term bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ward-based exercise was conducted simultaneously across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with registered APC members participating to elect the party’s presidential flag bearer.

In Ogun State, party officials said, “The process was largely peaceful and orderly, while the final nationwide collation is expected to provide a clearer picture of overall participation and voting patterns.”

President Tinubu secured a total of 322,485 votes, defeating fellow aspirant Stanley Osifo, who reportedly recorded no votes in the exercise.

Speaking at the state collation and results centre on Saturday, Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, who served as the APC presidential primary collation officer in the state, said the outcome underscored party unity and support for the continuation of the Tinubu administration beyond 2027.

According to Abiodun, Ogun State recorded 343,407 registered voters, while 323,164 party members were accredited to participate in the primary election. A total of 322,485 votes were cast across the state’s 236 wards.

“The results indicate that Ogun State remains united and resolute in supporting the continuity of this administration,” the Governor said while officially announcing the outcome.

Results presented by returning officers from the state’s 20 Local Government Areas showed President Tinubu dominating the poll in every council.

He recorded 26,043 votes in Abeokuta North, 24,948 in Abeokuta South, 39,100 in Ado-Odo/Ota, 24,207 in Ifo, and 20,980 in Yewa South, among other local government areas.

Additional figures showed Tinubu polling 19,319 votes in Sagamu, 20,632 in Ipokia, 16,666 in Odeda, 15,422 in Ijebu North, and 13,410 in Ijebu Ode, while Stanley Osifo failed to secure votes in all the local governments.

Formally declaring the result, Governor Abiodun said that, acting on the authority of the APC National Working Committee, President Tinubu had been returned as the winner of the Ogun State presidential primary election.

The APC presidential primaries are a crucial step in Nigeria’s electoral cycle, as the ruling party positions itself for the 2027 presidential election, in which Tinubu is seeking renewed support to extend his administration for another four-year term.
