The Governor of Cross River State in Southern Nigeria, Senator Bassey Otu has returned his nomination form for the 2027 gubernatorial election, pledging fairness, equity and inclusive leadership.
Governor Otu, who spoke to some newsmen in Abuja after submitting the form, which was procured for him by a group of Cross River people, warned against political division, noting its negative effect on the state’s progress.
He further called for unity among political actors and citizens, stressing that ‘only a shared vision would restore the state’s relevance and drive sustainable development.’
The Governor emphasised that unity remained the foundation for building a stable political future comparable to other sub-national entities.
Addressing succession politics, Governor Otu adopted a conciliatory tone, emphasising that leadership should not breed bitterness.
He said “power comes from God. I will do the best for the state in terms of being fair. Nobody should take whatever happens as if it is a personal encroachment.”
He reiterated his commitment to justice and impartiality, declaring that governance must be anchored on honesty and integrity.
Governor Otu stated, “I do not have any enemy. I do not hate anybody. But, there is a need to do what is honest because it is only that which can stand the test of time.”
He, however, expressed concern over Cross River’s declining political influence at the national level, attributing the situation to poor voter turnout and internal divisions.
