Leaders of the organised labour have received brand-new electric vehicles in recognition of their role in sustaining industrial harmony and supporting the development agenda of the Cross River State government.
The vehicles were presented to the labour leaders on behalf of Governor Otu by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ekpenyong Cobham in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

Govenror Otu presented the vehicles to the Chairmen of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT).
The Governor said that the initiative was in keeping with his People First policy and Renewed Hope Agenda of the Nigerian President Bola Tinubu, noting “those, who dedicate themselves to advocating for workers’ welfare should also have access to improved mobility.”

According to him, the organised labour was a critical stakeholder in governance and the electric vehicles were part of the state government’s urban mobility programme and effort to introduce cleaner and more sustainable transportation solutions in the state.
Responding to the gesture, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Monday Ogbodum, appreciated Governor Otu for providing what he described as a “huge relief” and a clear demonstration of the recognition of labour’s role in advancing workers’ welfare.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Gregory Olayi, said the vehicles would enabling them perform their duties more effectively and strengthen engagement with workers in the state.
They applauded the gradual switch from fossil fuel to electric vehicles, adding that the expenditure on petrol would no longer be burdensome.
