Nigeria’s Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, says he plans to establish a Sports centre for youths in Osun State, organise a music competition and concert to promote young talents.
Davido disclosed this on Tuesday in Osogbo while addressing journalists on plans to support youth development following the re-election of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke.
He said; “the proposed sports centre would provide facilities including football fields, swimming pools and basketball courts to enable young people to develop their sporting talents.”
Davido, who is Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund, said; “the initiative was aimed at providing productive opportunities for youths and reducing their exposure to illicit activities.”
“As chairman of the Sports Trust Fund, I want to do a lot of things but waited for the election to be over,” he said.
He also announced plans for a music competition and concert in December, saying winners of the competition would have the opportunity to perform alongside him at the concert.
Davido said the initiatives were part of efforts to engage young people through sports and music, stressing that he hoped to take 10,000 youths off the streets through the programmes.
He said the initiatives would help young people develop their skills and provide opportunities for emerging talents in sports and music.
On the re-election of Governor Adeleke, Davido described the contest as difficult, commending Osun residents for supporting his uncle.
He also praised the people of the state for what he described as their determination to protect their votes throughout the electoral process.
Davido said he was moved by the support shown to the Adeleke family during the election and expressed optimism about the Governor’s next four years in office.
