ECOWAS Commission Receives Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister

The ECOWAS Commission Vice President Mrs.Mrstien Tchintchibidja has received the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Mr. Mrasak Phuangketkeow, who led a 27-member Thai delegation on a courtesy visit to the new ECOWAS Commission Headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria.

A statement by the ECOWAS noted that the high-level meeting focused on “exploring opportunities to deepen cooperation between ECOWAS and Thailand, particularly within the framework of the Thailand-Africa IniInitiative,d to identify areas of mutual interest that could support sustainable development, economic growth and stronger people-to-people ties between West Africa and Thailand”.

The Vice President described the visit as an important step towards building a stronger and more productive partnership between ECOWAS and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Mrs. Tchintchibidja noted that the visit reflects the “growing warm relationship between the two sides and presents an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between ECOWAS and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations”.

She underscored the shared aspirations of ECOWAS and Thailand for peace, prosperity and sustainable development, stressing the importance of partnerships that deliver tangible benefits to citizens and contribute to inclusive economic growth.

In his response, Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow emphasized that“development cooperation would remain at the core of Thailand’s engagement with ECOWAS, signaling Thailand’s readiness to explore practical areas of partnership that could contribute to the development priorities of West Africa”.

The engagement underscores the mutual interest of ECOWAS and Thailand in broadening South-South cooperation and building a more strategic partnership anchored in shared development priorities, mutual respect and practical cooperation.
