ECOWAS Court President Seeks Effective Enforcement of Judgments

By Is’haq Ahmed, Abuja

The President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Justice Charlyne Brumskine, has called for stronger institutional cooperation to ensure the effective enforcement of the court’s judgments across the West African region.

Brumskine made the call during a working visit to the President of the ECOWAS Commission, General Birame Diop, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

She said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the two institutions and advancing efforts to ensure that the court’s judgments were respected and implemented across the region.

The meeting reaffirmed the institutions’ commitment to upholding the rule of law, strengthening cooperation and promoting regional integration.

The Vice-President of the ECOWAS Commission, Mr. Anthony Oluwatosin Ogunjimi, and the Commissioner for Internal Services, Dr Kalilou Sylla, attended the meeting.

Both institutions stressed that access to justice and the effective enforcement of the court’s judgments were essential to building public trust, promoting good governance and strengthening democratic principles across the region.

The ECOWAS Commission is also implementing strategic programmes aimed at deepening regional cohesion and removing barriers to integration.

The Initiatives align with the ECOWAS Vision 2050, which seeks to transform the community from an “ECOWAS of States” into an “ECOWAS of the People”, promoting peace, prosperity and greater participation by citizens across the region.
