The Former Secretary General of the Developing-8 (D-8) Organisation for Economic Cooperation, Ambassador Isiaka Imam, has urged Nigeria Businesss communities to explore the growing bilateral trade relations between Nigeria and Indenosia.
According to him, this is due to the trade volume between the two countries hiting 3.47 billion dollars in 2024 and 3.24 billion dollars in 2025.
Ambassador Imam, who is the Chairman of Triple Pillar Consulting Limited, made the call at a businesss forum jointly organised by its consulting firm, the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre, Lagos (ITPC) and Kwara Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (KWACCIMA), held in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state, North Central Nigeria.
He urged businesss entities including government and private sectors to take advantage of the upcoming 41st trade expo Indonesia, scheduled for 14–18 October 2026, in Jakarta to drive opportunities for the country.
Ambassador Imam emphasised that improved trade relations and increased focus on production and export are essential for Nigeria to achieve its ambition of building a one-trillion-dollar economy.
“The forum is designed to strengthen bilateral trade relations between Nigeria, Africa’s most vibrant economy, and Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia,” he said.
Ambassador imam added that the platform would also expose business owners across the north central region to investment opportunities in Indonesia.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director of the Indonesian Trade Promotion Centre (ITPC), Lagos, Mr. Arif Indrakusnadi, disclosed that the bilateral trade between the two countries reached 3.47 billion dollars in 2024 and 3.24 billion dollars in 2025, reflecting resilience and significant growth potential.
He encouraged Nigerian businesses to participate in the upcoming 41st Trade Expo Indonesia, noting that the event offers opportunities for market access, technology transfer, business matchmaking, and capacity development.
“The Expo provides a platform for exporters, investors and government partners to build lasting partnerships and explore new markets,” he said, assuring participants of ITPC’s support in facilitating business engagements.
The just concluded businesss forum in Ilorin, attracted government officials, business owners, manufacturers, captains of industry, public and private sector players from Kwara and Niger States in the North Central geopolitical zone, as well as Ogbomosho Chamber of Commerce in Oyo State.
