FCT Minister Orders Crackdown on Green Areas Used as Car Lots

By Hudu Yakubu, Abuja

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate stoppage of the use of green areas, parks and gardens in the capital city as car dealership lots.

The Minister, who decried the conversion of areas designated for parks and recreation, including the Millennium Park, into car lots, directed that all unauthorised use of such areas be halted and closely monitored to ensure compliance.

The directive is part of efforts by the FCT Administration to address flooding in some parts of the Federal Capital City.

Consequently, the Minister has established a task force to enforce the directive and prevent further encroachment on designated green areas.

He also directed an investigation into civil servants allegedly responsible for granting illegal approvals for the use of green areas as car dealership lots.

The affected officials, particularly directors in the Parks and Recreation Department, Abuja Environmental Protection Board, Traffic Management and Urban Affairs, have been summoned by the FCT Head of Service, Mrs Nancy Sabanti Nathan.
