Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been conferred with the prestigious traditional title of “Soniyanko Nupe” by the Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar, in recognition of her humanitarian contributions and national service.

In a congratulatory message, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, describes the honour as “richly deserved” and “deeply symbolic,” noting that it comes at a critical point in Nigeria’s development journey.

She stated, “This prestigious recognition is not only richly deserved but deeply symbolic, coming at a defining moment in Nigeria’s national journey.”

The Minister commended the First Lady’s “compassionate and people-centred leadership,” particularly her support for vulnerable populations affected by insecurity, displacement, and natural disasters.

Highlighting her interventions, she said, “Her timely support to communities affected by flooding and other emergencies in Niger State and beyond has further demonstrated her exceptional dedication to national service.”

Speaking on behalf of women, children, and vulnerable groups, the Minister acknowledged the wide-reaching impact of the First Lady’s initiatives.

“Through her strategic initiatives and direct interventions, she has continued to empower communities, strengthen family structures, restore hope to the vulnerable, and advance a culture of care, dignity, and shared prosperity,” she said.

She noted that the recognition comes ahead of the planned “Power of 10 Million Mega Empowerment and Rally”, describing the moment as significant for national unity and collective action.

According to her, “It reinforces the urgent need for unity, national cohesion, and a collective endorsement of the visionary leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The Minister further emphasised that the title “Soniyanko Nupe” transcends ceremonial value; “It is a profound recognition of service, compassion, influence, and responsibility, a fitting tribute to a First Lady whose life of impact continues to unite people, mobilise communities, and strengthen the social fabric of our great nation.”
