Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved the reconstitution of the Committee on the Preservation of Museums and Monuments in the state.
This is part of renewed efforts to protect and promote its historical and cultural heritage.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, who announced the Governor’s approval, said the Emir of Gombe, His Royal Highness Dr. Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III, would chair the committee.
Professor Njodi said the Commissioner for Information, Strategy and Culture will serve as Deputy Chairman, while the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), the Director-General of Gombe Media Corporation and elder statesman Alhaji Yaya Hammari are among the other members.

He said the committee also included Mr Yakubu Sarma, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties; Dr. Usman Isa Ya’u, a historian; and Mr Abdulfatah Aliyu.
According to the SSG, the Head of the Civil Service, Professor Muazu Shehu, will serve as Secretary to the committee.
He said the composition of the committee underscored Governor Yahaya’s recognition of the importance of preserving the historical records, monuments and cultural assets that define the identity and collective memory of the people of Gombe State.
Professor Njodi said the initiative was aimed at ensuring that important landmarks were protected from deterioration and loss, while preserving them for future generations.
He said the appointments will take effect immediately.
