The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, has called on political parties, journalists and other stakeholders to support the conduct of free, fair and credible elections ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Mutiu Agboke, made the call during a visit to the Ondo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Agboke, recently deployed as the 21st REC in the state, said transparency and open communication would remain central to the commission’s activities under his watch, especially during the forthcoming Ondo South Senatorial District by-election and the 2027 general elections.
The Senate seat became vacant after the former senator representing Ondo South, Jimoh Ibrahim, was appointed by President Bola Tinubu as Nigeria’s Permanent representative to the United Nations in March 2026.

“it has become imperative for all stakeholders to support the commission in promoting peaceful and issue-based politics in the state.
“Elections are a collective responsibility that requires cooperation among political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media and the electorates to achieve success.
“INEC, under my supervision, is committed to conducting credible, free and fair elections in Ondo State in line with the Electoral Act and the constitution,” he said.
The REC urged political actors to seek clarification through appropriate channels rather than spread misinformation capable of creating tension in the polity.
“My doors are open for questions and clarifications. For those who know me very well, I do not shy away from questions and clarifications because we don’t have anything to hide.
