Information Minister Hails Babangida’s Commitment To National Unity

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has praised former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Retired), for his enduring commitment to Nigeria’s unity and national cohesion as he marked his 85th birthday.

In a statement, Idris described Babangida as an elder statesman whose life and service occupy an important place in Nigeria’s contemporary history.

The minister said Babangida’s journey through military service, national leadership and statesmanship represents a significant chapter in Nigeria’s political and institutional evolution.

He noted that decades after leaving office, the former Military President has continued to engage with issues of national importance, particularly those relating to Nigeria’s unity, stability and development.

According to Idris, Babangida’s experiences in leadership and public service provide a valuable reservoir of knowledge from which succeeding generations can draw lessons on the complexities and responsibilities of nation-building.

He also acknowledged the former Military President’s enduring faith in Nigeria and his continued interventions in support of national cohesion and peaceful coexistence.

“General Babangida remains an important voice in our national journey, and at 85, we celebrate his service, his statesmanship and his enduring commitment to a united Nigeria,” Idris said.

The Minister wished the former Military President many more years of good health, peace and fulfilment.

Idris also prayed that Babangida would continue to enjoy the affection of his family and the goodwill of Nigerians as he marks the milestone birthday.

The congratulatory message underscores the Nigerian Government’s recognition of the former Military President’s place in Nigeria’s political history and his continued relevance to national discourse.
