The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), under the leadership of the faction loyal to former Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, has affirmed former Nigerian President, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
The endorsement was announced during a press briefing held in Kano by the Kano State PDP Chairman, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, who said the state chapter had reviewed the decision of the party’s national leadership regarding Jonathan’s presidential candidacy and was fully in support.
“Kano PDP has reviewed the national executive’s decision regarding the presidential candidacy of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“We acknowledge and respect the processes that led to this decision and affirm our support for their right to determine the party’s national trajectory within the framework of our constitution and legal guidelines,” Kibiya stated.
He added that the Kano chapter remains committed to the party’s broader objectives and would continue to engage constructively with stakeholders to strengthen the PDP across Kano State and Nigeria.
Addressing concerns over recent defections of some party members to the ruling APC, Kibiya maintained that the PDP in Kano remains united and resilient.
“We acknowledge that some stakeholders have unfortunately moved away from the PDP to the APC. Let me state unequivocally that the PDP in Kano State remains solid, cohesive, and firmly rooted in our shared values and objectives,” he said.

The chairman also commended party members for the peaceful conduct of the recent primaries, describing the exercise as a demonstration of the PDP’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and due process.
On developments at the party’s national convention venue in Abuja, Kibiya condemned the disruption that reportedly prevented access to the venue where the PDP’s presidential flag bearer was to be presented.
“The action undermines the principles of democracy, free association, and constitutional rights upon which Nigeria’s political system is built,” he said.
He warned that such incidents could threaten the country’s democratic process and urged political actors to uphold the rule of law and engage in peaceful and lawful political activities.
Reassuring party members and residents of Kano State, Kibiya said the PDP remains determined to emerge as a formidable political force ahead of future elections.
“We are the party with a proven track record of resilience, reform, and public service. We will work tirelessly to earn the votes and trust of Kano people and deliver policies that create jobs, improve security, and enhance essential services,” he said.
He called for unity, discipline, and sustained engagement among party members, stressing that the PDP would continue to pursue dialogue and democratic principles in its quest to promote peace, fairness, and development across the country.
