By Salihu Ali, Kano

The Kano State Government says it will construct 50 houses alongside each of the planned five-kilometre rural roads across the state’s 36 Local Government Areas.

The initiative, which will provide an estimated 1,800 housing units, is aimed at addressing the state’s housing deficit while transforming rural communities into modern and well-planned settlements.

Governor Abba Yusuf announced the plan at a stakeholders’ meeting convened to develop strategies for the smooth implementation of the projects, particularly in the areas of land compensation and the resolution of grievances.

Representing the Governor, Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, Dr Abdulkadir Abdussalam, said the proposed settlements would be equipped with essential public infrastructure.

He listed healthcare facilities, markets and police outposts among the amenities to be provided alongside the housing projects.

The initiative, tagged the “5km Abba Gida Gida Rural Model Cities,” is expected to promote balanced development, improve living conditions and stimulate economic activities in rural communities across the state.

Commissioner for Housing Development, Architect Ibrahim Yakubu, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajuddeen Othman, commended the administration for prioritising rural housing and infrastructure development.

Chairmen of the 36 Local Government Areas also expressed support for the initiative, pledging their cooperation to ensure the projects commence smoothly and are completed within schedule.
