The Katsina State Government has commenced the 2027 Budget Defence for Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), as part of efforts to strengthen fiscal discipline, improve public financial management and advance the implementation of the state’s Building Your Future 4 development agenda.
The exercise, coordinated by the Katsina State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, is a key stage in the annual budget preparation process aimed at ensuring prudent resource allocation and aligning government expenditure with the state’s development priorities.
Chairing the budget defence committee, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Malik Anas, said the exercise is designed to ensure that budget proposals submitted by MDAs are realistic, performance-driven and capable of delivering measurable outcomes for the people of Katsina State.

“The exercise underscores the Katsina State Government’s commitment to a transparent, accountable and results-oriented budgeting process that promotes sustainable development and enhances service delivery across the state,” he said.
On the opening day of the exercise, the Office of the Governor, the Office of the Deputy Governor, the Ministry of Information and its agencies appeared before the committee to defend their proposed 2027 budget estimates.
During the presentations, committee members conducted a detailed review of the proposals, scrutinising key areas including the performance of previous budgets, personnel costs, salary commitments, overhead expenditure and other components of the budget. The exercise was aimed at ensuring that public funds are allocated efficiently and in line with government priorities.
The budget defence also provided an opportunity for the committee to assess the implementation of ongoing programmes and evaluate the justification for proposed expenditures to ensure they support the state’s policy objectives and development aspirations.
The 2027 budget defence will continue with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies before the proposed Appropriation Bill is finalised for submission to the Katsina State House of Assembly.
