Katsina Partners with International Investors to Explore Mineral Resources

By Kamilu Lawal, Katsi

The Katsina State Government has approved a proposed mineral exploration and development partnership between the State Exploration and Mining Company and international partner Anka Metals Smith and Limited to identify and develop commercially viable mineral resources.

The approval was one of the major decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Alhaji Mannir Ayuba Sulluɓawa, said the partnership was aimed at attracting private investment, strengthening the mining sector and diversifying the state’s economy.

He explained that “the collaboration would focus on identifying, assessing and developing mineral deposits with commercial potential while promoting the sustainable utilisation of the state’s natural resources.”

According to the commissioner, “the initiative would also facilitate the establishment of a reliable geological and mineral resources database to support evidence-based planning, guide investment decisions and provide relevant information for prospective investors.”

The initiative aligns with Nigeria’s broader efforts to diversify its economy through the development of the solid minerals sector, which offers opportunities for investment, industrial growth and employment generation.

If effectively implemented, the partnership is expected to strengthen Katsina State’s capacity to harness its mineral wealth, attract investment and expand economic opportunities for residents.
