The Kogi State House of Assembly in North-Central Nigeria has approved and passed 65 Years as the Retirement Age of Teachers in Kogi State and Related Matters Bill, 2022 on Thursday 11th May.
The speaker of the House, Matthew Kolawale, while explaining declared that with the new development, teachers will now retire at the age of 65 years or after 40 years of public service, whichever is applicable.
“The Public Service Rule or any legislation that requires a person to retire from the public service at 60 years of age or after 35 years of service shall not apply to teachers in Kogi from the date of commencement of this law,’’ he added.
The 7th assembly is speeding up the examination clause by clause of some other bills, as it is making way for the new assembly to assume duties as required. Among the bills considered include: “A Bill for a Law to Amend the Kogi State Utility Infrastructure Management and Compliance Agency and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2018.” As well as “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Kogi State Roads Fund Management and Administration Board and Other Matters Connected Therewith, 2022.”
It is worthy of note that the objective of the bill is to establish the Kogi State Roads Fund Management and Administration Board (KOSRFMAB), which would operate and manage the State Roads Fund (SRF).
In addition, the speaker stated that the board is also to serve as a repository for revenue accruing sources for financing the management, rehabilitation, design, development, maintenance and other activities connected to the provision of Class B, Class C and Class D roads in the state.
He revealed that the latest bills already examined are likely to be the last set of bills to be passed by the 7th Assembly which commenced its activities on June 4, 2019, before it hands over in the next three weeks.
