Kwara first lady charges students to shun drug abuse

The First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Mrs Olufolake Abdulrazaq, has observed that indiscriminate use of drugs and other addictive substances otherwise referred to as drug abuse is said to kill faster, silently and ruin the future of youths in the society.

The First Lady who is the Founder of Ajike People Support Centre reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government at embarking on various productive programmes for youths in the State to better their lives and make them actualize their vision.

She commended the State Drug Control Committee for always being proactive and urged the team not to rest on its oars in order to phase out the prevalence of drug abuse in the State.

She also harged students to shun and abstain from using unprescribed drugs and making friends with drug users to prevent untimely death.

Ambassador AbdulRazaq made this remarks in Ilorin, North Central Nigeria while speaking at a public lecture organized by her office, as part of activities to mark the 2021 United Nations Day against drug abuse.

He was represented at the event by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq condemned the use of drugs without prescription from a certified medical practitioner.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, Professor Baba Issa enlightened the Students on the effects of drug abuse.

“ It can result in mental disorder, suicide and sometimes premature death.

The Chairperson, Kwara State Drug Control Committee, Pharmacist Barakat Olarewaju praised the First Lady for being a champion in the campaign against drug abuse in the State.

In his remarks, the Students’ Union President, Comrade AbdulAzeez Muhammed commended the State Government on the sensitization activities which is aimed at educating and enlightening the Students to have positive attitudes to drug abuse.
