The Kwara State Governor, North Central Nigeria, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, is set to receive the prestigious Sardauna of Ilorin traditional title in a major traditional ceremony expected to attract prominent personalities from across Nigeria and beyond.
The ceremony is scheduled to come up on Tuesday, September 15 at the Emir’s Palace, Ilorin, according to a statement issued by the organising committee.
The turbaning will be performed by the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness, Dr Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, who will formally confer the traditional title on Governor AbdulRazaq.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima is expected to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the occasion, adding national prominence to the traditional ceremony.
The organisers said; “the event is expected to attract an array of eminent personalities, including state governors, members of the National and State Assemblies, federal ministers, senior Presidency officials, political and party leaders, captains of industry and diplomats.”
Also expected at the ceremony are first-class traditional rulers, professionals and prominent sports personalities, with distinguished guests expected from different parts of Nigeria and beyond.
The organising committee described the conferment of the Sardauna title on Governor AbdulRazaq as a major cultural and traditional event, stressing the significance of the title within the Ilorin Emirate and Northern Nigeria.
The Sardauna title is traditionally associated with leadership, courage, military command and statesmanship, and is regarded by the organisers as one of the prestigious traditional titles in Northern Nigeria.
The conferment is therefore expected to draw considerable attention to the Ilorin Emirate, with the ancient city set to host political leaders, traditional rulers, business executives and other prominent members of society.
The ceremony is also expected to showcase the cultural heritage and traditional institution of the Ilorin Emirate, while providing an avenue for dignitaries to converge in honour of the governor.
According to the organisers, “the September 15 event is expected to attract the “crème de la crème” of Nigerian society and distinguished guests from around the world for what promises to be a memorable occasion.”
