The National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP), has presented a free Governorship nomination and indication of interest forms to Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, ahead of the 2027 election.
The presentation was made at the Abia State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, led by the National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman.
Senator Usman who presented the forms, said the decision to grant Governor Otti an automatic ticket was in recognition of his “outstanding performance” in office and his commitment to the Labour Party’s ideals of equal opportunities and social justice.
She commended the Governor for what she described as ‘faithful implementation of the party’s programmes and policies in the state.’
The Labour Party leader also noted that the gesture was also “meant to encourage him to sustain quality governance for the people.”
The National Secretary of the party, Obioma Iheanacho commended Governor Otti for remaining loyal to the Party during its internal crisis, despite defections by some members to other political platforms.
According to Iheanacho, “the Governor demonstrated consistency both in governance and party politics at a critical period in the party’s history.”

Responding, the Governor of Abia state, Alex Otti expressed appreciation to the party leadership for the honour, assuring the NWC that he would continue to support and strengthen the Labour Party.
He also applauded Senator Usman’s leadership, saying she had successfully guided the party out of its prolonged internal disputes.
He further declared that all legal issues affecting the party had been resolved, expressing confidence that the Labour Party was now fully positioned to participate in future elections without litigation distractions.
Also present at the ceremony was the former National Secretary of the party, Darlington Nwokocha, who also received a free nomination form from the party leadership.
Others in attendance included leader of Abia federal lawmakers in the House of Representatives, Ginger Onwusibe, alongside members of the Abia State Executive Council.
Members of the NWC delegation included National Organising Secretary Mrs. Oluchi Oparah, National Woman Leader Hilda Dokubo, and National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
