The Labour Party (LP) in Anambra State has concluded its primary elections for the 2027 general elections, producing candidates for the Senate and House of Representatives seats in the state.
The State Chairman of the party, Mr. Peter Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists in Awka on Thursday.
Okoye said; “the primaries were conducted using the Option A4 voting system and recorded strong participation from party members, delegates, aspirants and stakeholders across the state.”
According to him, “the exercise was peaceful, transparent and reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation.”
He stated that “the successful candidates were duly ratified and affirmed by the majority of delegates at a special nomination congress conducted in line with the Labour Party Constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s Electoral Guidelines 2026.”
“We are pleased that the exercise was peaceful and transparent and reflected the party’s commitment to internal democracy and grassroots participation,” Okoye said.
The exercise, he said, was conducted through the Option A4 voting system and witnessed strong participation by members, delegates, aspirants and stakeholders.
“We assure our candidates that the leadership and members of the party will work hard to secure victory for all of them during the 2027 general elections,” he added.
The candidates that emerged from the primaries include Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue for Anambra Central Senatorial District; Chief Ikenna Okafor for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency; Mrs Ifeoma Obiokoye for Anaocha, Dunukofia and Njikoka Federal Constituency; and Ujunwa Onyekachi for Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Returning Officer for the primaries, Mr Iduma-Christian Mayor, declared the candidates winners, noting that they emerged as sole aspirants in their respective contests.
Mayor also said “the exercise was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).’
Speaking after the exercise, the Labour Party’s senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Venerable Tochukwu Ikezue, commended INEC for overseeing the process.
He pledged that, if elected in the 2027 general elections, he would prioritise addressing the erosion challenges affecting communities within the senatorial district, empower constituents and promote inclusive and accessible leadership.
