Mozambique has launched its first School of Public Health in a development expected to strengthen specialised training, expand scientific research and improve the country’s ability to respond to emerging health threats.
Prime Minister Maria Benvinda Levy inaugurated the institution in Maputo, calling it “evidence of the government’s commitment to development, social cohesion and the well‑being of the population.”
Levy said; “Maputo was chosen because it hosts the country’s most complex public‑health challenges and a high concentration of researchers and institutions”.
Also, the school aligns with Mozambique’s commitments under the Community of Portuguese Language Countries’ health cooperation framework and follows the recent recognition of the National Institute of Health (INS) as an Africa CDC Centre of Excellence for public‑health training in Portuguese‑speaking African countries.
The launch also saw the signing of several memoranda of understanding to expand cooperation in digital health.
