The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Shaibu, has intensified the Association’s humanitarian and welfare outreach with a Sallah intervention programme aimed at supporting military families, widows and vulnerable beneficiaries within the barracks community in Abuja.
The outreach, held at the Guards Brigade Sports Complex, Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Asokoro, formed part of NAOWA’s expanding welfare and humanitarian engagement designed to strengthen social support systems within military communities amid growing economic pressures affecting households nationwide.
Within the Association’s humanitarian framework, relief materials and welfare packages were distributed to beneficiaries as NAOWA leadership reinforced calls for compassion, unity and collective responsibility during the Eid-el-Kabir season.

Addressing participants during the event, Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu described Sallah as a period that reflects sacrifice, generosity and empathy, stressing the need for sustained support structures for military families, widows and vulnerable members of society.
The NAOWA President maintained that the Association would continue to prioritise programmes focused on social welfare, humanitarian intervention and community support as part of broader efforts aimed at improving the wellbeing of military families and strengthening internal cohesion within the barracks environment.

The intervention also reflected the growing visibility of welfare-centred engagements within Nigeria’s military ecosystem, particularly as defence-related institutions increasingly combine operational commitments with family and community support initiatives.
Dr Shaibu further encouraged members of the Nigerian Army Soldiers’ Wives Association (NASWA) and the wider society to embrace peaceful coexistence, selfless service and mutual support, noting that humanitarian responsibility must extend beyond festive symbolism into sustained community action.

The event witnessed moments of interaction, appreciation and solidarity as beneficiaries acknowledged the support provided during the outreach programme.
Highlights included the distribution of relief items and welfare packages as well as group engagements with beneficiaries and participating members of the military community.
