The Niger State Government has opted for an out-of-court settlement in its dispute with Badeggi FM Radio over the directive by Governor Umaru Muhammad Bago to suspend the station’s operations.
Hearing on the matter commenced on Monday at the Niger State High Court 4, Minna, in a suit filed by Badeggi FM challenging its suspension by the governor.
At the hearing, counsel to the Niger State Government, Jacob Johnson Usman (SAN), moved a motion seeking the court’s order to allow for an out-of-court settlement.
Presiding Judge, Justice Mohammed Mohammed, after hearing from both parties, granted the request and adjourned the matter to 3rd September 2025 to enable them explore amicable resolution.
Both parties are expected to meet to resolve the areas of misunderstanding and agree on conditions and terms for the settlement.
It will be recalled that on Friday, 1st August 2025, Governor Umaru Muhammad Bago ordered the suspension of Badeggi FM over allegations of inciting public unrest and promoting anti-government sentiments – claims the station has described as baseless and politically motivated.
