The Nigerian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a digitally enabled economy, while Huawei Technologies Nigeria has pledged to support the country’s ambition of becoming a $1 trillion economy through digital infrastructure.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the management of Huawei Technologies Nigeria to the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, in Abuja.
According to the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Minister said Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s priority areas of sustainable inclusive growth, food security, industrialisation, innovation and improved governance.
Enikanolaiye said the Ministry’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Initiative—Demography, Development, Democracy and Diaspora—is being leveraged to advance Nigeria’s interests globally and attract strategic investments.
“Nigeria’s youthful and vibrant population is the country’s greatest asset and the driving force behind innovation, entrepreneurship and national development,” the Minister said.

He urged Huawei to expand its operations in Nigeria, create more employment opportunities and deepen technology and skills transfer to enable more Nigerians to benefit from the country’s digital economy.
Speaking on behalf of Huawei, Dr Jim Zhang reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital transformation and its goal of building a $1 trillion economy.
“Huawei is willing and capable of supporting Nigeria in building a digital-enabled country,” Zhang said.
He disclosed that Huawei has operated in Nigeria since 1999 and has trained more than 100,000 Nigerians in digital and ICT skills since 2018. He added that the company has expanded its presence across the country with training centres, innovation hubs, cloud services and telecommunications infrastructure, including the rollout of 3G, 4G and 5G networks.
Zhang also said Huawei’s LEAP Talent Development Framework aims to train 120,000 technology professionals in Nigeria between 2018 and 2027.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria through digital government, digital society, digital industry, digital infrastructure and digital talent development.
