By Othniel Canice, Abuja

Stakeholders have renewed commitments to deepen collaboration across Federal, State, and Private sector institutions in a bid to strengthen Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda.

Speaking at a Gala and awards night ceremony in Abuja to mark Galaxy Backbone’s 20th Anniversary, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume described Galaxy Backbone as a ā€œcritical national institutionā€ driving secure government connectivity and digital governance.

He highlighted that collaboration between ministries, departments, and agencies through GBB’s platforms has improved efficiency, transparency, and cybersecurity in public service delivery.

Akume stressed that Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda requires stronger partnerships in emerging technologies such as cloud computing, blockchain, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics.

He further said that “digital transformation is no longer optional but essential for national development, calling for expanded cooperation between public institutions and private sector actors to strengthen broadband infrastructure and secure data systems.’

He said; “Digital transformation is no longer an option but a necessity. Nations that embrace technology and innovation are better positioned to achieve sustainable economic growth, improve governance outcomes and enhance the quality of life of their citizens.ā€

In his remarks, the Managing Director/CEO Professor Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the organisation’s two-decade journey as one built on trust, shared vision, and institutional partnerships.

He noted that the idea of a digitally connected government has evolved into a national asset supporting ministries, departments, and agencies across the country.

Adeyanju emphasised that collaboration remains the foundation of Galaxy Backbone’s success, stressing that government institutions, private sector partners, and staff have all contributed to building a resilient digital infrastructure.

He said the organisation would continue to prioritise partnerships that strengthen innovation, service delivery, and human capacity development.

According to him, ā€œtechnology alone is not enough,ā€ noting that people and institutions must work together to sustain digital transformation. He reaffirmed GBB’s commitment to expanding collaboration with stakeholders to build a more connected and efficient digital government ecosystem.

Akume was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Kana,

At the sub-national level, Jigawa State also reaffirmed its commitment to collaboration with Galaxy Backbone.

Representing Governor Umar Namadi, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Ibrahim Gantsa, outlined ongoing partnerships focused on digital skills development, artificial intelligence training, blockchain innovation, and e-governance reforms.

Govenror Namadi said Jigawa State is working closely with GBB to expand secure connectivity, cloud adoption, digital identity systems, and rural ICT infrastructure.

He noted that the state has already trained civil servants and youths in emerging technologies, describing these efforts as part of a broader strategy to promote digital job creation and improve governance efficiency.

He added that stronger federal–state collaboration with Galaxy Backbone will enhance service delivery, improve public data systems, and expand access to technology-driven services, particularly in rural communities.

The landmark event concluded with the unveiling of a refreshed corporate identity and a flagship awards presentation honoring past managing directors, pioneer workforce staff, and critical institutional partners who anchored GBB’s footprint.
