Nigerian Film Company Takes Cultural Stories Global

Media production company known as Come On Naija has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting Nigerian storytelling and presenting the country’s rich cultural heritage to global audiences through high-quality film production and strategic collaborations.

The company’s Chief Executive Officer, Olawumi Fajemirokun, said Come On Naija was open to partnering with brands, institutions and filmmakers to create original content and entertainment projects that connect meaningfully with audiences.

In a statement, Fajemirokun said the company operates at the intersection of entertainment, culture, media and the creative economy.

She explained that it transforms compelling Nigerian stories and cultural experiences into intellectual property capable of reaching audiences across Africa and beyond.

She noted that the company’s activities include filmmaking, story development, intellectual property creation, creative partnerships and content production.

According to her, these efforts also provide opportunities for brands, investors, distributors and cultural institutions to participate in the entertainment value chain.

Fajemirokun stated that Nigeria has an abundance of human stories, traditions, entrepreneurial journeys, historical events, personalities, communities and cultural expressions.

However, many of these stories remain undocumented or or inadequately developed and are often presented without the production quality and scale required to attract wider audiences.

She said Come On Naija was established to bridge that gap by bringing Nigerian stories to life through compelling and professionally produced content.

Fajemirokun explained that the company’s storytelling philosophy is guided by five core principles: authenticity, excellence, entertainment, cultural preservation and global relevance.

She said the approach was based on the belief that stories could maintain their local identity while appealing to audiences from different cultures by focusing on universal human experiences.

Come On Naija has produced films that explore Nigerian traditions and cultural practices, including Afamefuna: An Nwa Boi Story, described as the first feature film centred on the Igbo apprenticeship system, and Iwe Ala: An Ojude Oba Story, which examines the cultural significance of the Ojude Oba festival.

The films have received positive feedback from audiences and art enthusiasts for their portrayal of Nigerian cultural themes.

The company has also earned international recognition winning three awards at the Toronto International Nollywood Film Festival in Canada.

According to the organisation, the achievement further strengthened its commitment to authentic storytelling, high production standards and global relevance.

Beyond filmmaking, Come On Naija is involved in cultural research, the development of films focused on Nigerian traditions and the documentation of cultural practices for future generations.

Fajemirokun said the company would continue creating stories that showcase Nigeria’s diversity and creative potential, while pursuing partnerships to broaden the global reach of Nigerian content.
