NiMet DG Receives Educational Excellence Award

The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Prof. Charles Anosike, has received the 2026 Nigerian Educational Excellence Award in recognition of his contributions to advancing education through meteorology-based studies and training programmes in Nigeria and across West Africa.

The award was presented at the Faculty of Education, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti state, South West Nigeria.

Represented by the Director of Weather Forecasting Services, Prof. Vincent Weli, Anosike thanked the organisers for the honour, describing it as a reflection of NiMet’s commitment to knowledge, innovation, and educational development.

He noted that NiMet has continued to partner with educational institutions by providing curriculum support, climate data, and hands-on meteorological training for students and researchers.

Anosike, who also serves as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the World Meteorological Organisation, pledged the agency’s continued investment in training future weather experts, researchers, and innovators.

Prof. Weli noted that Anosike’s leadership has strengthened collaborations between NiMet and tertiary institutions, expanded meteorological training programmes, and promoted the use of weather and climate data as practical learning tools for students and researchers.
