NYSC flags off 2021 free medical services in Ebonyi rural communities

In a bid to ensure that Ebonyi people and all Nigerians in rural communities are free from all kinds of diseases, the National Youth Service Corps NYSC in the State has embarked on the free medical services for the rural dwellers as part of their Community Development Service and as a way of contributing their quota to the national development.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Mercy Bamai Dawuda stated this while delivering the keynote address of the Director General of NYSC Professor Ibrahim Shuaibu marking the Nationwide Health week under the NYSC health Initiatives for rural dwellers program for 2021 in Onyikwa in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

Mrs Bamai said the program is driven by NYSC determination to deepen the impact of healthcare services to the people.

It’s a platform for contribution towards promoting the well-being of Indigent persons at grassroots by granting them easier access to free and quality healthcare” she said.

The Coordinator added that the program is largely implemented through medical outreach in the communities across the country.

“Through the initiative, NYSC has distributed drugs, eye glasses and other medical consumables. The scheme has also distributed 300 wheelchairs to disables through our partners.

“Also, NYSC has established community based clinics, setting up clinic for NYSC Secretariats, first aid administration and humanitarian aid among other things” Bamai added.

She urged the beneficiaries to take the excercise very seriously.

Praises from participants

The Representative of NYSC Director, Southeast area office, Mr Caleb Ishaya charged the people of Onyikwa to patiently participate in the program.

The State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr Charles Akpaenika, represented by Mr Amechi Alo said the excercise is a welcome development.

 

The program continues on Friday June 25th, 2021 at Izzi Local Government area of the State.
