The Ogun State Police Command has presented cheques worth ₦37.9 million to families and next of kin of police officers who died in the line of duty in the State.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRP) of Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the intervention was provided under the Nigeria Police Force Group Life Assurance Scheme.
Babaseyi noted that “the intervention is aimed at easing some of the financial burden on families left behind by officers who lost their lives while serving the nation.”

He said the cheques, totalling ₦37,913,081.77, were presented on Monday at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
The PPRO noted that the gesture forms part of efforts by the Police leadership to strengthen the welfare of its personnel and provide support to families of officers who make the ultimate sacrifice in the course of duty.

The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Oliver Ezirim, alongside members of the Command Management Team.
At the ceremony which began with the observation of a minute of silence in honour of the deceased officers, Ezirim said the financial assistance reflected the commitment of the Police leadership to the welfare of officers and their families.
He acknowledged that no financial support could replace the lives lost or erase the pain of families who had lost their loved ones in service.
Ezirim stated that the intervention was intended to provide some relief to the beneficiaries and reaffirm the responsibility of the Police Force towards families of officers who died in the line of duty.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs. John Shito expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Ogun State Command for the assistance.
She assured the Police authorities that the funds would be used judiciously for the welfare and sustenance of the families.
The Ogun State Police Command said the gesture was also a reminder that officers who lose their lives in service would not be forgotten, and that their families remain part of the Police family.
