The Nigeria Police Force said it rescued 189 kidnap victims and arrested 28 suspected terrorists, 62 armed robbers and a host of others in its month of April achievement report.
This was disclosed by the Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Disu, at an emergency conference with state Commissioners of Police and the press in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
IGP Disu said the rescues and arrest were done during several intelligence operations.
“During the month of April 2026, the Nigeria Police Force, during several intelligence-led operations, recorded several successes. These include the arrest of 28 suspected terrorists, 51 murder/culpable homicide suspects, 62 armed robbery suspects, and 85 suspected kidnapping suspects, while 54 suspected cultists were also arrested. Activities of the police led to the rescue of 189 victims of kidnapping.”
RECOVERED WEAPONS
Aside from the arrests and rescue, IGP Disu also disclosed that assorted firearms and ammunition were recovered during the operations.
In the same vein, the IGP stated that 140 assorted firearms were recovered in different operations, while 1,074 various calibres of ammunition were also recovered. 37 stolen vehicles were also recovered.
ARMS AND AMMUNITION AUDIT
In a further move to entrench accountability, the Police Boss directed all Commissioners of Police to carry out a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition within their commands.
“I hereby direct all Commissioners of Police to immediately undertake a comprehensive audit of arms and ammunition within their respective commands.”
He charged that the exercise should be diligent and transparent.

“This exercise must be thorough, transparent, and properly documented, with detailed reports forwarded to the Force Headquarters within the stipulated timeframe.”
The objective of the exercise he says is to strengthen accountability, identify existing gaps, and provide an accurate assessment of operational needs.
“Let me emphasise that this is not a routine administrative task but a critical measure to enhance our readiness, prevent misuse, and ensure that all assets entrusted to the Force are properly accounted for and optimally deployed.”
