Russian President Vladimir Putin has extended warm congratulations to African Heads of State and Government as the continent marked Africa Day on May 24, 2026.

In a goodwill message, Putin described Africa Day as a powerful symbol of the continent’s triumph over colonialism and its enduring pursuit of freedom, peace, and prosperity.

“Please accept my warmest congratulations on the occasion of Africa Day – a holiday that symbolises the victory of the peoples of your continent over colonialism and their aspiration for freedom, peace and prosperity,” the Russian leader stated.

Putin praised African nations for what he described as remarkable achievements in economic and social development, noting that the continent is becoming increasingly influential in resolving major global challenges.

According to him, cooperation among African countries through the African Union and regional organisations continues to expand, while integration efforts and conflict-resolution mechanisms are also advancing steadily.

“African countries have achieved impressive success in the economic and social spheres and are playing an increasingly significant role in addressing pressing issues on the international agenda,” Putin said.

The Russian President also reiterated Moscow’s commitment to strengthening long-standing relations with African nations.

“The Russian Federation attaches great importance to strengthening its traditionally friendly ties with African states. We are united by the desire to build a just multipolar world based on genuine equality and the supremacy of international law,” he stated.

Deepening Cooperation

Putin expressed confidence that the Third Russia-Africa Summit scheduled for October in Moscow would create fresh opportunities for stronger bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.

“I am confident that the Third Russia-Africa Summit, to be held in Moscow in October, will make it possible to outline new prospects for developing mutually beneficial cooperation,” he said.

He further welcomed African leaders to the Russian capital and wished them success in governance, alongside peace and prosperity for citizens across the continent.
